Fuerteventura Vlog November 2015

Just to give a bit of an insight into what being retired in Fuerteventura is like I thought I would do a monthly Fuerteventura vlog. I hope it isn’t too long and boring. Perhaps I need to get out and do a bit more to make the next one more interesting.

If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy retirement life then Fuerteventura, or any of the Canary Islands, could be a good choice. It isn’t paradise but then nowhere is perfect. The climate is wonderful though and it allows you to be active outside every day of the year giving a great retirement lifestyle. It is a lot easier here to answer that old question “What to do when you retire?” The climate provides many more options than would be the case in the UK or other parts of northern Europe.

I know that if I had stayed in England I would not be enjoying retirement life as much as I am here. Firstly, I would rarely go out from November to April as the winter weather, along with the short days, is so depressing that it would make me just want to stay in. I am a “fine weather” person in that I hate getting cold or getting wet. Secondly, even in the summer, half the time you can’t plan on doing anything outside as the summer weather is often as miserable as that in the winter. Thirdly, living is much cheaper here so I certainly have more disposable income than I would have done had I stayed in the UK. And lastly, something that is a combination of all three above really, in that because the weather is so good here there are many things you can do which actually don’t cost anything anyway. In the UK you often have to “pay” to enjoy yourself.

The vlog includes:

  • Lunch in La Oliva
  • Eating out in Corralejo
  • Kite Festival in Corralejo
  • La Oliva Rally
  • Dog walking
  • Trophy Cleaning
  • My 61st birthday
  • Ferrets Bar in El Cotillo
  • Gardening
  • Surfers in Corralejo
