Naturist Beaches in Fuerteventura | Naturist Hotels and Villas

Fuerteventura is a very naturist-friendly island. Although there are no designated naturist beaches in Fuerteventura, you will find naturists on almost every beach provided that is not in the built-up area of a resort or town.

The law in Spain (and therefore in Fuerteventura) allows for public nudity in any “natural” place. Most beaches in Fuerteventura fit that description perfectly, as they are some of the loveliest natural beaches in Europe.

Most of the beaches in Fuerteventura are used by naturists, at least in part. Naturists and non-naturists generally co-exist quite happily. The town beaches aren’t naturist, particularly those in Caleta de Fuste, but most are at least naturist-friendly.

I must admit, though, that many of the beaches are not as naturist as they were when I first came to Fuerteventura 30+ years ago. Even the beaches by the road in the dunes of Corralejo were predominately nude back then, but nowadays, it is rare to see anyone nude there. It is a shame as it shows how things become less relaxed once mass tourism hits.

nude beaches in Jandia Fuerteventura
One section of the beautiful nude beaches in Jandia Fuerteventura

The most popular nude beaches Fuerteventura has are:

  • The main dune beach area of Corralejo
  • The lagoon beaches of El Cotillo
  • Steps beach outside El Cotillo
  • Tindaya Beach
  • Much of Sotavento/Jandia beaches in the south – only 10 miles of beaches!
  • Cofete beach

If you don’t want to see nude people on the beach, then don’t go to these beaches. Don’t go to them to be deliberately “offended.” Believe it or not, people do that.

I remember going to a very long beach in Dorset, which had a naturist section, with signs on either side defining the naturist area. It made me laugh to see that the most crowded parts of that beach, by far, were the two areas immediately outside the naturist section!

My advice would be – If you haven’t tried it – don’t knock it. Perhaps your holiday in Fuerteventura is the ideal time to give it a go.

I think naturists are very accepting people. An example would be if a large woman wore a skimpy bikini on a clothed (textile) beach, lots of people would look and think, “Look at her. How can she wear something like that!” whereas on a naturist beach, if the same woman were nude, no-one would take any notice.

Even on the town beaches and the mainly family beaches, as well as around the pools in most hotel and apartment complexes, women are often topless.

The Main Naturist Beaches of Fuerteventura

Corralejo Dunes Beaches

These are also known as the Corralejo Grandes Playas (big beaches). They are located immediately south of Corralejo and run for miles along the coast.

Although there may be naturists all along the beach, naturism mostly starts just south of the Oliva Beach Hotel and stretches through the dunes down to the beaches next to the road at the southern end.

nude beach corralejo
The Corralejo Dunes

You will find many places to lie among the dunes and in stone circles near the sea people have made. These can be found on beaches throughout the island.

You could also go for a long nude walk inland through the dunes. The sand dunes stretch for almost 2 miles inland, for most of which you are likely to be totally on your own. If you go for a long walk, take water with you as it can be hard going and dehydrating.

See the available naturist accommodation options in Corralejo towards the end of the article.

You can see all of the beaches in this video

El Cotillo Naturist Beaches

El Cotillo Lagoons

These start at the northern edge of the village of El Cotillo. The first few are generally not naturist but are sometimes. The next beach along is Playa de la Concha (also known as Playa Chica), and this beach is generally a mixture of textiles and naturists. When the right-hand side is busy, the beach’s northern side tends to be the popular naturist area.

Sometimes, the beach is well populated with naturists, and at other times it isn’t. My theory is that if the first few people on the beach are clothed, those who arrive afterward follow suit. If the first are naturists, then more people go naked. No one wants to be outnumbered!

El Cotillo Lagoons nudist beach fuerteventura
One of the many El Cotillo lagoon beaches which are mainly naturist

From then on until the lighthouse and beyond, you can find many little beaches and stone circles to practice naturism. They must be the most unique Fuerteventura nudist beaches.

The only time this whole area is less naturist is during the Spanish holidays in August when Spanish families spend lots of time on the beach.

Piedra Playa

This is also known as the Surfer’s Beach as it is very popular with water sports enthusiasts. Ten years ago, it was 50/50 clothed/naturist, but, sadly, these days, naturists tend to be only at the far end (south) of the beach.

Steps Beach (Playa del Aguila)

This is my favorite beach in the El Cotillo area, and probably one of the best nudist beaches Fuerteventura can offer.

Steps Beach is accessed down a few flights of Heath Robinson type stairs that have recently been renovated but it is well worth the effort. It is never crowded and attracts plenty of naturists, particularly away from the steps in either direction.

The Jandia Peninsular Beaches

fuerteventura nudist beach

The most popular naturist beaches in Fuerteventura to the south of the island are Playa de Sotavento, Playa Esquinzo, Playa Barca, Mal Nombre and Playa de Butihondo. The biggest resort in the area is Costa Calma, which has many luxury hotels fronting the beach.

You can reach the beaches at various places from the main road to the south by taking one of the many smaller roads off of it, most of which finish at a small car park by the beach.

nude beach fuerteventura
Sotavento Beach – yet another wonderful nude beach Fuerteventura has

There are miles of beautiful white sandy beaches and a lovely warm turquoise sea. Finding a quiet spot to spend the day lying on the sand is not a problem.

It is possible to walk nude for miles along this Fuerteventura nude beach.

Other nude beaches in Fuerteventura

Cofete

nudist beach fuerteventura
Cofete – probably the least crowded Fuerteventura nude beach

Cofete has 14 miles of unspoiled, usually deserted, sandy beach where you can be nude all day. It would probably be a good place to try naturism for the first time, away from others, to break you in gently. Although it is one of the most remote nudist beaches Fuerteventura possesses, it has its benefits.

It requires a 20km drive along a fairly bumpy track from Morro Jable, but it is worth the drive. This track has recently been improved so it should be less bumpy now. There is one small cafe/bar in the small village of Cofete.

Tindaya Beach

Tindaya Beach is on the west coast towards the north of the island. It is never crowded as it isn’t the easiest beach to find. I have been on this secluded Fuerteventura nudist beach without another person in sight. The video below will show you how to get there.

Tindaya Beach and how to get to it

La Pared

This is a small place on the southwest coast of Fuerteventura. It has a lovely long beach that is popular with surfers and kiteboarders. Plenty of naturists can be found towards the southern end of the beach.

Resorts to avoid if you are a naturist

Caleta de Fuste

fuerteventura nudist beaches

One of the most popular areas with British tourists on the island is completely devoid of naturist beaches.

There are two “beaches” in Caleta de Fuste. Both are man-made and neither are naturist (although they are at least topless).

If you are a naturist and want to stay there because of the facilities for eating/drinking etc. then you will need a hire car to travel to the naturist beaches Fuerteventura offers (see hiring a car in Fuerteventura). You will either need to drive north to the dune beaches of Corralejo or the lagoons of El Cotillo or south to the beaches of Jandia.

Costa Antigua (aka Nuevo Horizonte)

This is just north of Caleta de Fuste and has no beaches for anyone to use, let alone naturists.

Best Naturist Accommodation Fuerteventura or Close to Naturist Beaches

If you are coming to spend time on the naturist beaches in Fuerteventura, you will need somewhere to stay.

Perhaps surprisingly, there is very little dedicated naturist accommodation or Fuerteventura hotels with naturist facilities for such a naturist-friendly island.

But there are a few good places to stay close to the island’s main nudist beaches.

Obviously, there are villas and apartments all over Fuerteventura that have private areas where nude sunbathing can occur, but few are advertised as naturist villas in Fuerteventura.

Beverely Hills Naturist Villa, Costa Calma

Beverley Hills Naturist villa in Fuerteventura

There are three apartments in the villa, with a large swimming pool. Secluded area with spacious terraces and a barbecue area, Balinese style day bed, and wooden pagoda for outdoor dining. Secluded peace and tranquility are guaranteed. (The Villa also has a private room for solo travellers).

I have stayed here and can certainly recommend the apartments. It must be one of the nicest naturist villas in Fuerteventura. Karie, the owner, lives in one of the apartments and is very sociable. She organises BBQs and other events for guests.

The villa was recently featured in the Fuerteventura episode of The Canary Islands with Jane McDonald.

TUI Magic Life Hotel – Morro Jable

fuerteventura hotels with naturist facilities

Surprisingly, this is one of the few hotels with naturist areas in Fuerteventura.

My brother and his family recently stayed at this hotel, and I visited him. I can confirm that one of the swimming pool areas is naturist.

You can book it here or find a better deal as part of a Tui naturist holiday package.

Club Jandia Princess

Club Jandia Princess has a naturist pool area, as confirmed by a reader recently. The hotel is right on the beach at Esquinzo.

You can book a complete package here – Club Jandia Princess.

Hotel Riu Palace Tres Islas – Corralejo

fuerteventura nudist beach hotels

Although this is one of the Fuerteventura nudist beach hotels, it is not naturist. It is set in the heart of the Corralejo sand dunes beach, which is all naturist friendly and extends for miles along the beautiful white sandy beach.

The hotel is 4 star and has lovely pools overlooking the sea, a spa with a sauna, several different types of restaurants.

Infiniti – Fuerteventura Naturist Sun Club, Corralejo, Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura Naturist Sun Club (Infiniti) is a small complex in Corralejo that is now a dedicated naturist hotel facility. There are 4 villas and 6 apartments in the complex set around a pool and a hot tub. There is also a small bar and a nice shaded seating area.

I was recently invited to look around and confirm that it is a nice, well-maintained complex. The staff were all very friendly so I think anyone would be happy staying there. Fuerteventura Naturist Sun Club website.

Monte Marina Naturist Resort is located in the south of Fuerteventura, near Esquinzo in Jandia. It is part of the Hotel Marina Playa and the naturist part consists of 47 apartments around a lovely swimming pool.

This overlooks the lovely Esquinzo beach, just a short walk away.

You have access to the main hotel facilities, but these are not naturist. You can find the Monte Marina here.

Cotillo Ocean Sunset Apartments, El Cotillo

Villaverde Naturist Village – Villa Green Oasis

This will be the only Fuerteventura naturist village when it is completed. It will comprise up to 40 units built this year (2020 – still not built in 2024 sadly) in Villaverde in the north of Fuerteventura. It is a development by the Fuerteventura Naturist Sun Club owner above. I will update this post when it is built and open. There is currently a large 4 bedroom villa on the site which can be rented for naturist holidays. Contact Fuerteventura Naturist Sun Club

There is now a website for this facility which states it will open in April 2023 (now not mentioned on the site at all) – https://www.villagreenoasis.com/home

Gran Hotel Natura Corralejo

Unfortunately, the Gran Hotel Natura, one of the only naturist hotels in Corralejo Fuerteventura, closed due to the building needing refurbishment in 2017.

Unfortunately, It has reopened after refurbishment, but not as a naturist hotel. It is still right at the start of one of the longest nudist beaches Fuerteventura has so still a great place to stay. The hotel has been refurbished to a high standard and you can check it out here – Hotel Boutique TAO Caleta Mar.

Just to let you know the Hotel Club Jandia Princess has a “nude” pool in the adult only area which is fabulous. This is a 4 star all inclusive resort and right on the beaches of Jandia.
Thanks for the info on the other naturist areas of Fuerteventura.

        Hi JP

I Visited Hotel Club Jandia Princess in August 2022, and the nude pool was very much still there and open. It also had the facility of naked sauna. Lovely Hotel.

The coastal walk from Caleta to Salinas has many ‘stone circles’ which are used by naturists that are mostly homosexual males. Sadly, the area is untidy and strewn with plastic waste and swimming is virtually impossible in the rough seas, but if you fancy an hour topping up your tan, it’s possible to isolate with some factor 15 & a six pack of Guinness. šŸ™‚

Thank you for the information! Very helpful. Would you please provide a google map location (like a hotel, restaurant) for Playa de Sotavento and Playa Barca to help me better identify the exact location because there are a couple for Sotavento. And I cannot find Playa Barca but it seems this is the area near Hotel MeliĆ” Fuerteventura. Also, is Risco del Paso naturist (this is further south)? Gracias

    1. JP in Fuerteventura avatar
      JP in Fuerteventura

There isn’t an exact spot as pretty much the entire beach areas from Costa Calma south to Playa de Esquinzo are naturist/mixed. Risco del Paso is within that area so yes it is.

There is a scenic hike just past the Surfer’s beach at El Cotillo to and beyond Steps beach. A camera is a must to capture the area.

What condition is the road from El Cotillo to Playa del Aguila ie is it passable with a rental car?
    Thanks

Everywhere is passable with a rental car! I used to take rental cars to places I would have been concerned to take my 4×4 šŸ˜‰ Seriously though, the track to the beach is easy in a normal car. I drive along the track to Steps beach in this video – https://youtu.be/vBb3GnRWblA

Hi. Watched most of your videos and think they are very informative. Can you advise me if the easiest way to get to the supposedly ā€œ gay naturist ā€œsection of the dunes, after the two large Hotels. Just looking to feel comfortable among similar guys to myself. Iā€™m staying in the South of Corralejo so enjoy a good walk if necessary. Appreciate any information you could send my way. Thanks.

    1. JP in Fuerteventura avatar
      JP in Fuerteventura

I have no idea Jamie. I wasn’t ware there was any segregation. The dunes part of the beach is not that huge so I suggest you walk around to find the area you want.

Jamie – you should park by the Km 13 sign on FV-104 and the walk onto the beach and start walking north. After 10 minutes you’ll be in the right spot.

Hi JP. Thanks for the video tours. In March we’ll be staying at Lacasa Apartments near Los Lagos beach, El Cotillo. Approx how far is it on foot to the lighthouse? And is Steps Beach reachable on foot from the main part of El Cotillo or do you need a car for that one?
I like to have a naked walk early mornings and afternoons while my more reserved and fairer skinned wife sleeps/stays in the shade at the apartment. Your advice please on my best choice for a naturist beach within 15-20 minutes walk and also, where’s best to take my rather shy wife where she won’t be overwhelmed by too many naked bodies?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. JP in Fuerteventura avatar
      JP in Fuerteventura

The lighthouse is 2 miles from where you are staying. You can certainly walk to Steps Beach. It will probably take half and hour as it is just over 2 miles from Cotillo. A car is obviously better. The lagoons area would be the best for a walk for you and probably best for your wife too as there are never very crowded. Steps Beach would also be a good quieter place for your wife. Have a great time.

Hi JP, thank you for the site and all the helpful information. I am visiting Fuerteventura next year and was surprised to find out that public nudity is legal. Is it it actually acceptable to go naked in public on other beaches or areas besides what youā€™ve listed in this article, or should I expect to run into problems? Thank you!

    1. JP in Fuerteventura avatar
      JP in Fuerteventura

The law says “In any natural place” which excludes town beaches etc. But beaches on much of the island are completely natural so they are ok. Obviously common sense is required.

Hi, we are stopping in correlejo in February and was hoping the beaches were not too far from the hotel to walk to and hopefully war enough to bare all?

    1. JP in Fuerteventura avatar

To some extent that depends which hotel you will be staying in. Some are right by the beach and others are the other side of town. Which one have you booked?

Hi, first time naturist, my wife and I have just returned from an all inclusive holiday in Morro Jable on Jandia beach, I googled before hand and read that everything left of the lighthouse looking at sea was a ā€œsafe areaā€ for naturists, in reality everywhere on the beach was, just not outside the bars at the furthest point before the marina. We hit the beach every day before 9am and at that time of the day it was harder to see a textile than a naturist!. We stayed at the Bluesea Jandia Luz all inclusive, very cost effective and Iā€™d recommend it..I mean how long are you going to stay in the hotel with this beach on your doorstep anyway.

    1. JP in Fuerteventura avatar

That’s interesting Andrew. I am glad you both had such a good experience.
