Fuerteventura Vlog July 2017 – I need to get out more!

Recently I seem to be going out less and less so I think I need to get out more. I hardly seemed to do anything in July, which makes producing a monthly vlog harder to do.

This month includes:

– Jenson’s 3rd birthday so he had a piece of steak with three candles on it and stupid Sue and I sang “Happy Birthday” to him.

– Filming the wildlife in the back garden at night, including a Gecko and some bats. I enjoy a bit of bat spotting in Fuerteventura.
– Eating lunch at the kiosk in La Oliva
– Cleaning the swimming pool to get rid of the dust from the Calima
– Going to the dump in Lajares
– Messing about with the camera while driving over the river beds

It is all excitement being an expat living in Fuerteventura you know!

Fuerteventura Vlog May 2016 – UK Trip

Fuerteventura Vlog May

Fuerteventura Vlog May 2016

Not much about Fuerte in my Fuerteventura Vlog May as it was rather dominated by our trip back to the UK to attend my son’s wedding in Canterbury. First stop was Somerset to stay with our friends Nick and Sheila in their house in Thorney, on the Somerset Levels. The house was completely flooded in 2014 and has been totally refurbished since then.

We then went off to Canterbury in preparation for Richard and Louise’s wedding. It all went off really well and I was very proud of him.

Sue looked nice.

I walked into Canterbury centre in the morning and it turned out that there was a parade of RAF Air Cadets for their 70th anniversary. I was an Air Cadet for 2 weeks but left as there was too much marching and the corporal was a bully.

The wedding was really good and I was very proud of my son.

Including::

– Flying to Gatwick
– Walks and lots of tea out in Somerset
– My first pint for two years
– Air Cadets parade
– Salvation Army Band
– Wedding
– Flight back to Fuerteventura

If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy retirement life then Fuerteventura, or any of the Canary Islands, could be a good choice. It isn’t paradise but then nowhere is perfect. The climate is wonderful though and it allows you to be active outside every day of the year giving a great retirement lifestyle. It is a lot easier here to answer that old question “What to do when you retire?”

Vlog Every Day in April

vlog every day in april

I have signed up to do a vlog every day in April. I am not sure whether doing this is going to be a good idea or a bad one. It will certainly mean quite a bit of work, not only filming and editing the videos but also deciding what to actually vlog about. I am sure it will all be good practice though.

VEDA = Vlog Every Day in April is a challenge to make a video every day for a month. It’s a tradition in the Savvy Sexy Social community to help video newbies learn the ropes to using a camera to make a connection with their audience online.

There are lots of Youtubers signed up to do this and they are on Twitter using the tag #SSSVEDA

Winter in Fuerteventura Vlog February 2016

Winter in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura Vlog February 2016 – Winter in Fuerteventura

What happened in my life during winter in Fuerteventura in February 2016.

Although the start of February was lovely, winter finally arrived so we had snow, hail, frosts and – well perhaps not. OK we had a couple of weeks of sometimes cloudy weather with 4 or 5 days of rain. I even got wet on a dog walk one evening so it was pretty bad I can tell you! Thank goodness winter seems to be over now ,-)

Including::

– getting the cars through their annual test
– shopping
– gardening
– rain and an accident
– lunch in El Cotillo
– coffee in La Oliva church square
– the dogs look for rabbits
– a friend’s birthday party

So that is another winter over, I imagine, and I have still not had to resort to wearing long trousers at any time. That is three years in shorts now!

Fuerteventura Vlog November 2015

Just to give a bit of an insight into what being retired in Fuerteventura is like I thought I would do a monthly Fuerteventura vlog. I hope it isn’t too long and boring. Perhaps I need to get out and do a bit more to make the next one more interesting.

It is a lot easier here to answer that old question “What to do when you retire?” The climate provides many more options than would be the case in the UK or other parts of northern Europe.

I know that if I had stayed in England I would not be enjoying retirement life as much as I am here. Firstly, I would rarely go out from November to April as the winter weather, along with the short days, is so depressing that it would make me just want to stay in. I am a “fine weather” person in that I hate getting cold or getting wet. Secondly, even in the summer, half the time you can’t plan on doing anything outside as the summer weather is often as miserable as that in the winter. Thirdly, living is much cheaper here so I certainly have more disposable income than I would have done had I stayed in the UK. And lastly, something that is a combination of all three above really, in that because the weather is so good here there are many things you can do which actually don’t cost anything anyway. In the UK you often have to “pay” to enjoy yourself.

The vlog includes:

  • Lunch in La Oliva
  • Eating out in Corralejo
  • Kite Festival in Corralejo
  • La Oliva Rally
  • Dog walking
  • Trophy Cleaning
  • My 61st birthday
  • Ferrets Bar in El Cotillo
  • Gardening
  • Surfers in Corralejo
