Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura – A walk around the port

We had friends from the UK staying with us last week and the girls wanted to go shopping. I dropped them off at the Rotundas indoor shopping centre in the capital, Puerto del Rosario, and then I went for a walk around the port area. Unfortunately there were no cruise ships or inter-island ferries in so the port was rather empty. For a port, it is quite an attractive place, although I think more could be done to attract visitors to the area. There should be more bars and restaurants to make better use of the sea and port views. There are various sculptures dotted around, some I have shown in the video, which makes it a more interesting place to go for a walk. For a port, the water is also surprisingly clear.

I understand that originally it was known as Puerto del Cabra (Port of Goats) but when tourism started some bright spark thought this didn’t sound very attractive for tourists so it was changed to Puerto del Rosario (Port of the Rosary). I think they should change it back.

Although it is the capital, it is still not a very large place. It’s population is only around 30,000 so it is more of a town than a city, but it is all the better for that.

Hi, do you know if they still run a local bus around the town. We were here, Puerto del Rosario, a few years back and there was a really handy bus that followed a circular route around and through the town? It only cost a euro back then.

I can’t find any reference to one. If there is then it isn’t run by the main bus company.
