Fuerteventura is a beautiful island in the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa.
With its white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and year-round sunshine, it is no surprise that Fuerteventura is one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations, particularly as a winter sun getaway.
I first visited the island more than 30 years ago and have been a resident for 10 years so I think I know the island as well as anyone.
Here are our favourite places to visit in Fuerteventura
1. Playa de Sotavento
This vast beach is one of the most beautiful in the world. With its white sand, crystal clear waters and spectacular views, it is easy to see why this is a tourist favorite destination. It is a popular spot for windsurfing and kiteboarding.
There are many lovely beaches along this stretch of coast in the Jandia Peninsular, most popular with naturists.
Corralejo is a popular lively town in the north of Fuerteventura. It is the perfect place to soak up the sun and enjoy some nightlife.
The main Dunes beaches are beautiful and the streets are lined with restaurants and bars.
3. Caleta de Fuste
Caleta de Fuste is a purpose-built resort. It is ideal for families as it is located on a sheltered cove with plenty of activities for all ages. It is very popular with British tourists and has many bars and restaurants.
There are two golf courses, including a championship course used for the Spanish Open.
4. Corralejo Dunes
The stunning sand dunes of Corralejo are a must-see for any visitor to Fuerteventura. They are part of a national park and run for almost 5 miles along the coast and well over a mile inland.
5. El Cotillo
El Cotillo is a small, picturesque fishing village and is the perfect place for a quiet getaway. Although it has grown in recent years, it still has its charm.
It has some great beaches, all within walking distance of the village. There are numerous good restaurants as well as supermarkets and some other shops. You can read all about it on my other website – elcotillo.net
6. Oasis Park
Oasis Park Fuerteventura is a must-visit destination for animal lovers. This park is located towards the island’s south and has various exotic animals, including lions, elephants, tigers, monkeys, and zebras.
Visitors can explore the park on walking paths that wind through its beautiful grounds and watch the animals in their natural habitats. The park also offers interactive activities, such as camel rides, bird and sea lion shows, and an outdoor playground.
There is also a restaurant where visitors can enjoy a meal while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Oasis Park Fuerteventura is the perfect place for a fun-filled day for the whole family.

7. Isla de Lobos
This small island is an ideal spot for a day trip. It has beautiful clear water to swim in and is great to hike around.
You can reach it on the ferry from Corralejo or take a catamaran trip with a stop at the island.
This charming village is full of history and culture. Betancuria was once the capital of the island.
It is the most picturesque village in Fuerteventura and well worth the drive up into the mountains to visit.
You can visit Betancuria on this full-day island tour.
9. Ajuy and its caves
It is a small fishing village popular amongst tourists for its black sand beach and caves. There are some popular seafood restaurants overlooking the beach.
The Ajuy Caves are a network of two caves formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity reached by a pleasant walk along the cliffs. The caves are a popular tourist attraction, as visitors can get a unique ocean view from inside.
You can visit the caves at Ajuy and Betancuria on this tour.
10. Morro Jable
This seaside resort town is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the stunning views. It is split into two main areas – the old and the new town. You can travel from Morro Jable to Cofete (which follows).
Cofete is a tiny village on the southwest coast of the island. It has a long, stunning beach and is reached via a bumpy, unmade road that travels around the mountain before dropping down to the village.
Fuerteventura is full of incredible places to explore, and these 10 places are just the beginning. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a fun-filled family vacation, Fuerteventura has something for everyone.
If you don’t feel like doing the drive yourself, you can join a very popular 4×4 Jeep tour to visit Cofete – Cofete 4×4 Jeep Tour
